Happy New Year!!!
I can't believe 2008 is already gone. It has been a really great year for my family. We are so blessed with three healthy little boys, a safe and happy home and family and friends who love us. When you come right down to it, that's all that really matters. The rest is just a bonus!
2008 was the first full year of business for Posh Pastry, and it was a great one! I have met such wonderful people in the wedding industry who's help and friendship really mean a lot to me. I have also been blessed to have the most incredible clients! They have given me the chance to express my art, strengthen my creativity, and given me the opportunity to do the job that I love! To all of you... a huge thank you!
This was definitely the year of the sculpted cake at Posh Pastry and I have absolutely loved the challenge! I've been dreaming of recreating the National Championship trophy should a certain orange and blue team win the game. Ahh... a girl can dream!
To those of you who have already booked for 2009... I can't wait to create something incredible for you. I will never forget that my clients are the reason that Posh Pastry exists. You can be sure that your cake will get my total attention. I put my heart into each one because I know how important it is to you.
I hope you all have a happy and safe New Year!

Holiday Cheer
I love this time of year! Sweets and treats are my favorite things. For me, the holidays mean pretzels!!!
The thing I love about our small town is the Christmas Eve exchange. The bells in the church downtown play all afternoon while friends and neighbors visit each other and exchange goodies. We moved here five years ago. I remember that first Christmas Eve here, it was like a Norman Rockwell painting. I look forward to it every year.
My treat specialty it gourmet chocolate pretzels. They are so much fun to make! My friends are always excited to see what I come up with. I love to give them because they are so beautiful and soooo yummy!

Merry Christmas!!!
This is my favorite time of the year. I have had such a wonderful Christmas. The thrill my little one gets when he sees the inflatable snowman and twinkling lights makes me so happy. I know I only have a few years to savor those moments when little things are so exciting, and I am soaking up every second of it! Sorry I've been slow on the blog lately... but they are only little once.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
To all my clients... thanks for letting me be a part of your life this year. I hope you have a very blessed and Happy new year!

Why I'm not a wedding/event planner...
I know I've been MIA in the blog world for a while. I have been very busy learning an important lesson. I am a cake person...not a planner.
Planners pull together huge events, coordinate large groups of people (who sometimes don't get along) and pull off a tremendous party without breaking a sweat. They make it look easy......
It's NOT!
Ok, I'll get on with it. I was in charge of the Annual Progressive Christmas Dinner for our woman's church group. I love these ladies and I wanted this to be perfect. We were going to be eating at three different homes. I had to plan the program, meal, and decorations for three separate locations. One was actually a beautiful barn where we ate by candle and lantern light. I am so happy with how it came out. It was wonderful and I had so much help from some dear friends. When I took on this project I had no idea just how long it would take. I cannot tell you how many hours were spent working on this. Basically, I had no time to blog until it was finished.
The lesson I learned: Planners are invaluable! You will never know all the work that is being done behind the scenes. They make it look easy, non stressful, and fun. That's an optical illusion, they are actually working their butts off and putting their blood sweat and tears into making a perfect event seem like a breeze. Planners...my hat is off to you!

Happy Thanksgiving!
I know I'm posting this late, but I just wanted to wish everyone a happy thanksgiving! I am so thankful for my family and friends. We have been so truly blessed this year.
This week, I am especially thankful for doctors and antibiotics! I think we are all finally well...just in time for the kids to go back to school and bring new germs home. :)

Flowers to brighten your Monday
This is a cake I did for a wedding shower with a fall theme. It think it's really fun. The flowers are real, but the basket is made of cake. Keep in mind, I'm not a florist... so all you florists out there... take it easy on me.
My favorite part of this cake is that the bride thought someone sent her a basket of flowers. She was so surprised to find out it was a cake!

Custom Cake Toppers
Todays weddings are all about the personality of the couple. Gone are the days of a plain white cake with a plastic bride and groom on top. There are so many styles of toppers on the market today. For some brides, even that won't do. They want something truly custom, something no other bride will have. That's where I come in. Here are a few custom toppers I have made. Oh.. and don't forget about the (previously discussed) bows! This is an edible picture frame with edible photo for a bridal shower. The ruffled edge of the frame matches the ruffled bottom borders. This "F" is wrapped with ribbon and covered with matching sugar flowers.
This is a gumpaste monogram topper. It is hand cut and hand painted to match the gold accents on the rest of the cake.
When planning your wedding cake, remember you aren't stuck with what's on the shelf. We can make a custom topper just for you!

Bows, Bows, Bows
If you've seen my website, you have probably noticed that I love making bows. There are all kinds of bows that can be made of sugar...loop bows, dress bows, bows with flowing tails, bows with flowers..... I could go on and on.
Here are a few of my favorite bows. They can be made to really look like fabric, or they can be whimsical and fun.
I love clean and elegant cakes. Adding a beautiful bow and sash can take a cake from plain to simply beautiful. This bow was hand painted with edible shimmer to make it shine like satin.
So, if your cake design need a little something... think about adding a bow!

Groom's Cake
I've said it before, but I love groom's cakes! They are so much fun. This was for a groom from Idaho. Apparently groom's cakes are a southern thing and he had never heard of them before. When his bride asked what he wanted for his cake he jokingly said, " a cheeseburger".
Well... that's exactly what he got!
I love this picture from J.S. Photography!!! It's so awesome to have my cakes photographed by such talented people!
If you have an idea for an out of the ordinary cake, I'd love to hear it. It's so much fun to turn ordinary thins into cake!

I have the BEST clients!!!
I am so lucky to have such wonderful clients! I made Ava's first birthday cake last year and got such an amazing letter from her family! This year she had a strawberry shortcake party.
This cake was really fun to make, I loved the fondant strawberries. With all boys, I rarely get to make such girly things. LOL :)
I got this letter from her family this morning:
Kristy - You have done it again -the cake was an absolute
hit! Everyone loves the flavor and moistness of your cakes.
You have a long time customer in us - believe me!
This is a picture they sent me of the cake. It is so nice to make cakes for such sweet people. I'm looking forward to creating something awesome for Ava's 3rd birthday next year!

Let's Eat Cake!!!
I am so excited about Let's Eat Cake!!! It is a wedding cake competition and cake tasting extravaganza. The best thing about it is that it's for a great cause. It benefits St. Jude Children's Hospital. It all started as a dream. Melissa, from Masterpiece Weddings, has made her dream a reality and she needs our help!!! Please visit the website and give a donation, even a small on one will really help.
For my cake friends, I think Melissa needs more competitors so let's step up and make this a success. I will be competing and have already started sketching some ideas. I'll keep you updated on my progress. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with! I hope the competitors get to taste the cake too :)
The craziest week!!!
I know I've slacked a little in the blog department last week. It was sooo busy! I made 150 cupcakes for a church carnival and two elementary school classes. We had two nights of Halloween (Friday and Saturday) and way more candy than we needed. On Saturday, I had to pry my husband away from the FL-Ga football game to help deliver a wedding cake. Then we rushed home to dress our kids up for trick or treat. Our town moved trick or treat until Saturday because there was a home football game on Friday. They joys of a small town :)
All in all it was a good week. The boys had a blast and the cake turned out great too! This picture is before I added the cake topper.

A "cake" for someone who doesn't like cake???
This is the Groom's cake I did for my Sister in Law's wedding. The Groom doesn't like cake. Gasp.... what? I know it's unbelievable, but some people actually don't like cake.
We came up with something creative for him. This "cake" is actually stacked layers of brownies and frosting! It was so yummy, especially paired with the chocolate covered strawberries.

I am guest Blogger!
Thank you so much to Unique Designs for let me be a guest blogger today! They asked me some really cute questions. I especially liked the one about the Easy Bake Oven. I had totally forgotten about the one I had growing up. I did love it and tried to use it all the time!
Swing on over and check out my post on their "fabulous little blog". When you are finished there, check out their beautiful website. Their work is AMAZING!!!! There was nothing out there like this when I got married. Their designs are custom, so they can create anything your heart desires.

Groom's Cake
This is the James, the Groom from the wedding last weekend, snacking on a fondant twizzler. Twizzlers are his favorite candy! I'm guessing he likes them a lot. The couple thought it would be fun to turn his favorite treat into a cake. It even had strawberry filling.
Thanks for challenging my creative skills and doing something fun!!!

Newest Creation
Congratulations to Whitney and James! Their wedding reception was amazing! The weather was perfect for an outdoor event! There were brightly colored paper lanterns and twinkling lights. The tables were decorated with beautiful orchid arrangements made by the Bride's Mother.
I truly loved making this cake! I have known Whitney and her family for years. I am so glad that I got to be a part of their special day! Keep and eye out for the Groom's cake later this week. It was an homage to the Groom's favorite red candy!

The Happy Couple
I love groom's cakes! They really show off a couple's personality. They can be traditional and formal or fun and funky. It's up to you.
Jen and Gordy are such a cute couple and were a lot of fun! The groom's cake was a surprise for Gordy's dad. We recreated his yellow Porsche and he loved it! He took tons of pictures of it and had to turn away when it was cut. The best part though.... it was really yummy!

Cake Love
The cake master, Ron Ben Israel, is simply the best! I have been in love with his modern, clean and insanely beautiful cakes for years. His cakes defy gravity and his flowers rival mother nature. Check out his website, www.weddingcakes.com, for some inspiration and amazement!!!

Filling Flavors
How many times have you been to a wedding where they served white cake with white frosting? Yea, it's good... but why not make it something people will go home raving about? There are several ways bakers put cakes together. Many have three layers of cake and two layers of filling. I prefer four layers of cake and three layers of filling.
Filling a cake this way provides the opportunity to do some really beautiful things. I think the cake should be beautiful on the outside and the inside. Adding colored or flavored butter creams and fruit fillings will add the ooh factor when the cake is cut.
I am so excited about the wedding cake I am making this weekend. Inside will be pineapple filling and guava mousse. This adds beautiful color to the cake and delicious flavor. Why not treat your guests to something unexpected... and delicious!

Bridesmaids Night
Here is the display I did for bridesmaids night at Solutions Bridal. It was a Sex in The City theme using the colors hot pink and black.
This cake was so much fun to make. I didn't have any restrictions. They told me to do something creative that would go with the theme. Don't you think it would be prefect for a girly bridal shower? The twist pretzels and pretzel rods were made to match the color scheme, and were really yummy, if I do say so myself. :)
Let me know what you think.

Gators, Gators, and more Gators
This weekend I had the opportunity to make another alligator for a Gator fan groom. The reception was beautiful! The couple even had a outdoor sports bar set up to watch the game during the reception! True fans!!!!
This is my husband/delivery guy, Steve. I couldn't do it without him. We finished the table with fresh greenery. My gator looked like he was in the swamp.
Thank you to Keri and Frankie for including me in your special day!
