Don't be a "CopyCake"!!!

Dear Brides,
I know it may seem tempting to look through bridal magazines or wedding blogs to find "the" cake of your dreams. Well, here's a little warning... do so at your own risk! Creating an exact replica of a cake is nearly impossible, especially if it was originally created by someone else. Here's a little visual example for you:

Remember this cake I made in 2009?

It was custom designed by me to match the couple's wedding invitations. One of my favorite things about this cake is the handmade sugar peony!

Apparently, a bride saw it on the photographer's blog and loved it. That's great! Here's where things went wrong... it seems she took the picture to her baker who convinced her that my cake could be duplicated for her wedding. Unfortunately, the results were not quite the same.

Here's the "copy cake" complete with a silk/paper flower.

So.... the moral of the story is, don't let a baker tell you that they can exactly "copy" someone else's work! You don't want a knock off wedding cake!!! Please, please look at your baker's portfolio. If you don't see the quality or style that you are looking for, go somewhere else! (preferably Posh Pastry) :)

Holy wow! Your cake was so much better than the rip off cake. The baker really should have agreed to do a cake that was "inspire by" your cake rather than to try to duplicate it. I think it would have turned out better for everyone. Or if it was THAT important to the bride to have her cake be JUST LIKE the cake you made, well, then she should have hired YOU!
